The Data Governance Program is aligned with the priorities established in the foundational initiatives of Lehigh's Strategic Plan, “Decision making informed by qualitative and quantitative data and analysis” and an “Organization of the future”.
Mission
The Data Governance Program's mission is to promote appropriate data use through planning, policy, and protocols to ensure data integrity and quality and to facilitate data-informed decision-making.
Guiding Principles
- Data as an Institutional Asset - Institutional data is a shared resource that supports Lehigh's mission and goals.
- Accountability and Stewardship - Data must be managed responsibly throughout its lifecycle.
- Transparency and Collaboration - Data Governance activities are inclusive, visible, and collaborative.
- Data-Informed Culture - The University community should be empowered with the tools and knowledge to use data effectively.
- Security and Compliance - Data will be handled in accordance with University policies, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Data Governance Structure
Lehigh's data governance structure is built on the foundation of Data Stewardship paired with two Data Governance committees:
- Data Stewardship roles create formal accountability and data integrity across data domains and subdomains.
- Data Governance Executive Committee (DGEC): Composed of senior administrative leaders and faculty, this group provides oversight and sets high-level strategy.
- Data Governance and Standards Committee (DGSC): Reporting to the DGEC, this committee made up of Data Stewards works collectively on data management issues and projects with University-wide impact.
